Kai McDonald is Miss Earth Jamaica 2010

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – September 1, 2010 - Twenty-five year old Kai Ayanna Indira McDonald was selected to represent Jamaica at the tenth edition of Miss Earth beauty pageant to be held in Vinpearl Land, Nha Trang, Vietnam on December 4, 2010.

More than 80 contestants from various countries and territories will compete for the title in December 2010, where Miss Earth 2009, Larissa Ramos of Brazil will crown her successor at the end of the event that will broadcast by VTV, ABS, CBN and The Filipino Channel.

The Miss Earth winner serves as the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other environmental organizations.

Miss McDonald's selection was done at the executive level, after several potential candidates were screened using the international pageant judging criteria which includes overall appearance, beauty of the face, swimsuit fitness, poise and elegance, personality, environmental awareness and intelligence.

Kai Ayanna Indira McDonald was born in Clarendon, Jamaica on August 17th, 1984. In her earlier years she attended Wolmer's Preparatory School and Wolmer's High School for Girls' where she is a past Deputy Head Girl.

As a child she also received her education in Piano from the Kathleen Hickling Bond School of Music, for which she has accumulated several distinctions and has played in local concerts at the Edna Manley School of Arts. In addition, she was a member of Wolmer's Dance Troupe for eleven years, which afforded her the opportunity of travelling to the Caribbean to perform.

Kai was raised in a Christian home with both parents and an older sister. As a member of Webster Memorial United Church she was a part of the Youth Fellowship, and the church choir before migrating to Florida.

Currently, she is a student at Florida International University pursuing her studies in Finance. As an advocate for 'going green' her goal is to set up projects and workshops in Jamaica, in order to promote environmental change. Also, to educate people about the importance of converting their personal choices, in order to live an eco friendly lifestyle.

TckTckTck partner World Wildlife Fund (WWF) started Earth Hour in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change.

Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more that 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.

The Search Is On for the Next Green Goddess

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – March 22, 2010 – The Miss Earth Jamaica Pageant is pleased to announce the search for Jamaica’s Next Green Goddess. Organizers are on a mission to find the most beautiful woman to represent Jamaica at the third largest International Pageant, Miss Earth in Nha Trang, Vietnam. We are looking for motivated young women who will proudly represent Jamaica in fulfilling the ideals of the competition – while becoming an effective advocate for Mother Earth.

The Pageant is open to all young female between the ages of 18-26, who are unmarried, never given birth; minimum height of 5 feet 5 inches; possess beauty of face and proportionate body structure; outgoing and friendly; excellent physical condition; has knowledge of her country's culture and environment; shall either have been born in Jamaica, be the child of a Jamaican parent, or is a naturalized citizen of Jamaica.

More than 90 contestants from various countries and territories will compete for the coveted title in November 2010, where Miss Earth 2009, Larissa Ramos of Brazil will crown her successor at the end of the event that will broadcast by VTV, ABS CBN and The Pilipino Chanel. ABOUT MISS EARTH

Miss Earth 2010, 2011 to take place in Vietnam

Vietnam will host Miss Earth 2010 and 2011, according to a recent MoU signed by the Philippines owner of the contest and Thanh Nien Media Corporation.

Under the memorandum signed on January 29th by Philippines-based Carousel Productions Inc. and Thanh Nien Corp., the two sides will join hands in organizing a total of 10 Miss Earth events in Vietnam.

After the two pageants are held in Vietnam this year and next year, the beauty contest will be held in another country and will return to Vietnam later.
The official contract for the Miss Earth events between Carousel and Thanh Nien Corp. will be signed later this month once approved by concerned agencies.

Raymon Monzon, President of Carousel, said, “The Miss Earth 2010 is the 10th event of its kind and this is also the first time we’ll bring the pageant out of the Philippines, its home country.”

“We decided to choose Vietnam because the country is close to the Philippines and it successfully organized a special competition for Miss Earth 2007.”

According to Nguyen Cong Khe, Chairman of Thanh Nien Corp.’s Executive Board, the events would help boost the images of both the Philippines and Vietnam and “promote the Miss Earth brand to a higher level.”

The official venue for the Miss Earth 2010 contest in Vietnam is not disclosed yet but there is a high possibility that Khanh Hoa Province will be chosen, according to organizers.

Please tell us something about yourself, your full name, age, height, vital stats, where you came from, educational information, your interests and hobbies and other important facts about yourself.

My name is Jenaae Jackson, and I am nineteen years of age. I stand 5 feet 10 inches tall or 178 centimeters. Vital stats, 32-24-35. I am from the beautiful Caribbean island of “wood and water”, the birthplace of reggae music, Jamaica. I am a first-year college student, model, and entrepreneur. I enjoy volunteering and working with children, photography, fashion and traveling. Adventurous, and determined are words that describe me and I am beyond thrilled as to where Miss Earth's journey will take me upon my arrival in Manila.

Who influenced you to join your country’s national pageant prior to winning the title to represent your country at Miss Earth?

I was actually self-motivated. There was not one person in particular who encouraged me to enter prior to me winning the title. Miss Earth is a pageant that I have, for a long time admired and have wanted to participate.

How were you chosen to represent you country and what preparations have you done for the Miss Earth 2009 competition?

The Miss Earth Jamaica Organization did not have a national pageant. The selection was done at the executive level, using the international pageant judging criteria which includes overall appearance, beauty of the face, swimsuit fitness, poise and elegance, personality, environmental awareness and intelligence. The Miss Earth Jamaica organization has put in place a team of top industry professionals to assist me in preparing for the international competition. I undertake a physical regimen of fitness and nutrition training with personal trainer, Loleta Riley, receives PR and Communication guidance for press and media from Michelle McKoy of Carib Angels; and Catwalk Training from runway coach, Francisco Gomez. I am also working closely with my Fashion Designer and Wardrobe Stylist Valentino Omar of Genevieve Couture who is responsible for my competition wardrobe which consists of evening gowns and national costume, Francisco Azucar of Fashions by Azucar will provide cocktail dresses.

If you could choose among the four elements: earth, air, water or fire, what would you like to be and why?

Water best describes my personality. I'm tranquil, peaceful, and calm yet I can be spontaneous and assertive.

What is your fashion sense and style? Who is your style icon and why?

I love color, lots of bright vibrant colors. Reds, pinks, blues and greens, purples, teals. I like to be different, yet still very sophisticated, and feminine. I love nice prints and fabrics. Kim Kardashian is one of my style icons. I love her style!

What environmental platform do you want to pursue during the Miss Earth 2009 pageant and how would you help to pursue this platform?

My environmental platform is deforestation and I am spearheading a tree-planting campaign. I choose this issue for my campaign because I feel this is an area my country seriously lacks and would tremendously benefit. Although Jamaica possesses a very beautiful landscape, rich with greenery, deforestation is a serious issue that is slowly plaguing the island. Most of Jamaica's lowlands have been cleared for agriculture as well as for building and development. I believe that if people were more aware and educated on the subject, they would do their part. I will promote and teach my fellow Jamaican people how harmful and damaging deforestation is to our community and mother earth. I have pledged with the United Nations' "Billion Tree Campaign" and encourage others in joining me. I want to encourage Jamaica, and the world to keep our earth green and healthy, give back and plant a tree!

Are you a member of any environmental organization or animal rights protection in your country?

Yes, I have pledged with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - Billion Tree Campaign. As a part of my pledge on Saturday, October 17, 2009 I launched the Miss Earth Jamaica – “Plant for the Planet Kids Club” a innovative and fun program designed to educate youth ages 5 - 12 about the importance of tree planting and recycling.

Do you have any idea about the host country, Philippines? What are your impressions about the country? And what do you know about the Finals Night venue, the island of Boracay?

Yes, I have been learning about the Philippines. The finals night's venue is beautiful. Overall the Philippines appear to be very similar to Jamaica in terms of landscape and climate. Very hot, tropical with lots of trees, and lots of water. It’s like 7,107 little Jamaicas. How awesome!

Have you heard about the recent disaster brought by typhoons Ondoy (Ketsana) and Pepeng (Parma) in the Philippines? How do you feel about the tragedy that befell some part of the Philippines due to these typhoons?

I would like to give my deepest and most sincere condolences to the Filipino people and the people of all the countries affected by the recent tragedies. I personally know the effects and how Mother Nature’s wrath can put lives in complete disarray, and strain entire nations. However, the region's people are strong. It is only a matter of time, hard work, and aid from other nations working together as one that the country will completely recover and be back on its feet.

With the recent disaster that happened in the Philippines and other parts of the world, do you think Miss Earth pageant is still relevant in promoting environmental awareness all over the world?

Absolutely, the Miss Earth Organization's cause is more relevant now than ever. In the wake of this tragedy, I hope that people also see and learn from what its severe effects are telling us. For example in the Philippines, deforestation leads to soil erosion, which causes landslides and severe flooding. More than 300 dead, but not in vain. Let’s open our eyes and ears listen and learn from our mistakes.

What do you think is the biggest environmental problem that our planet Earth is experiencing today? And how would you do your share to prevent this problem?

Deforestation. That is why I choose it as my platform. It is not only a major problem in my country but in most forested countries all over the entire world.

If you win the Miss Earth title, how would you use your title to promote environmental awareness all over the world?

If I win the Miss Earth title, I would use my title to promote environmental awareness all over the world by educating people of the issues and the effects on our environments. At one point and time I did not know all the facts about climate change as I do now. Once I learned I changed. I don't believe people don't care, I believe people simply just don't know the entirety and power their everyday actions really have. We need to educate so we as a people can change

Which of the two would you choose and why? Beautiful or Smart.

Beautiful. Because someone who is truly beautiful is not just a pretty face but smart as well.

City or countryside?

City. I’m a busy, go city girl! However I would love to live in an eco-friendly city.

Money or fame?

Money. Because it’s green! LOL!

Blind or mute?

Mute. There are so many other ways to communicate; nothing can even come close to compensate for not being able to see.

Love life or beauty pageant crown?

Love life with a beauty pageant crown!

Lastly, what is your message to all the people reading this interview?

BMW: At 19, how did you feel at that moment when you were crowned Miss Earth Jamaica 2009 in August 2009.

Jenaae: I was honored. To be given such a wonderful opportunity is amazing. Not only do I get to represent my country, Jamaica, on an international level, but also help spread the word of a very important cause that is affecting the entire world right now, which is global warming and climate change. I am a part of the world becoming more environmentally aware. That's huge! I'm really passionate about this and overwhelmingly excited.

BMW: You had already been victor at the Miss Teen Florida Caribbean 2005 pageant. Was it the confidence from that competition that made you go for the Miss Earth Jamaica Pageant?

Jenaae: Absolutely. I was 15 years old when I competed for the title of Miss Teen Florida Caribbean 2005. At that age, you're between a child and a woman, and girls often lack self confidence. I learned how to walk with poise and assurance, speak with intellect and grace. With all my travels and experiences during my reign, I definitely became more confident. Confidence is a trait that, as a young woman today, I still possess and I definitely think it played a good role in me being crowned Miss Earth Jamaica 2009.

BMW: Tell BMW readers more on your Going Green project. Impressive stuff you're doing out there!

Jenaae: I am launching a tree planting campaign, because I think this is an issue that is often neglected. Yes, we must reduce, reuse, recycle but also remember we have to replenish. We take so much away from the earth and so often forget that we need to give back. My initiative is to get more people to plant trees. Even just to plant one small tree in your backyard adds to the environment and really makes a difference. Trees act as a filter removing air pollutants like carbon monoxide from our atmosphere and the air we breath. I'd say that's pretty important, wouldn't you? Deforestation is a serious issue but together, one tree at a time we can make an impact.

BMW: Growing up as the only child in a single parent home, one could guess you learned how to be independent and self sufficient from an early age. What other achievements have you registered so far at your age?

Jenaae: When I was younger it was somewhat difficult for me to handle always being on my own as my mom was a hard working single mother. But although at times it was a bit challenging for me, now that I am older I think it was a benefit rather than a hindrance. I am fortunate in that I learned and grew from this experience. My mom is my biggest confidante and she's always there for me. I surround myself with positive, productive people. Through their help and support, I am able to overcome challenges.

BMW: What's the best compliment you've ever received?

Jenaae: I love when people tell me I'm funny, because I don't try to be. I pride myself in being a happy and positive, very optimistic person. If I'm able to make others laugh and feel good. That's the best feeling in the world.

BMW: At this rate, you are definitely destined for bigger dos! Where do you see yourself in 10 years...

Jenaae: Hmmmn... In ten years I see myself in a mansion with lots of money. Kidding! Really... in ten years I strive to be successful off course and financially stable. However ultimately, most importantly I see myself happy and content. Ten years from now I hope to be settled down and possibly starting my own very big family. I hope to have left my mark on the world but still involved in the community and the environment.

BMW: What animal represents you and why?

Jenaae: I actually took a quiz on this. And the animal which best represents me, don't laugh is a monkey. I'm funny, friendly, sociable, compassionate, and intelligent.

Nineteen-year-old model and entrepreneur, Jenaae Jackson has been selected to represent Jamaica at the ninth edition of the Miss Earth Pageant to be held in Manila, Philippines on November 8.

Jackson's selection was done at the executive level, after several potential candidates were screened using the international pageant judging criteria which includes overall appearance, beauty of the face, swimsuit fitness, poise and elegance, personality, environmental awareness and intelligence.

"I am honoured and humbled to be chosen, as an ambassador for Jamaica on an international level and to participate in a pageant that promotes Environmental Awareness. I am truly passionate about the Go Green Lifestyle that the pageant promotes and intend to mobilise my fellow Jamaicans to become active in preserving the natural beauty of Jamaica that we have taken for granted for so many years," Jackson said about her selection.

"I am confident that I have the ability to stimulate this awareness and also make Jamaica proud. With the love and support of everyone who has helped me thus far, I look forward to beginning my reign and to fulfilling all expectations," she said.

Born on June 1, 1990 in Kingston, Jenaae Jackson attended Williams Prep and Dunrobin Primary schools before migrating to Florida. As an only child in a single parent home, she had to learn how to be independent and self-sufficient from an early age. In December 2005, Jenaae represented Jamaica in the Miss Teen Florida Caribbean Pageant, where she won the coveted title.

In 2007, she travelled to the British Virgin Islands to compete in the Miss Caribbean World Pageant; later that year she entered Caribbean Model Search in Kingston, Jamaica. She has modelled for designers such as Heatherette's Richie Rich and companies such as JC Penny as well as various designers. This 19-year-old is an entrepreneur and co-owner of Executive Travel & Communication Inc, a virtual communication company.

Jenaae enjoys photography, strutting the runway, travelling, playing volleyball, and socialising with friends. She also enjoys volunteering with school children, helping them improve their reading skills.

The "Going Green" initiative is something she is passionate about and truly believes that if everyone changed just a few lifestyle choices such as turning off the light when you leave a room or walking to the store instead of driving we can truly make an eminent impact on the environment.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – August 17, 2009 – Miss Earth JAMAICA has unveiled a new logo design. The new look and logo represent the direction MISS EARTH JAMAICA is moving and provides a unique and consistent voice to the pageant’s promotional efforts.

Miss Earth Jamaica’s Jannice Davis, National Director, spearheaded the process of creating the new look of the pageant enlisting Philippines-based Marvin Nuto to design the new logo.

Design Objective
To use the avocado green color scheme (yellow green to dark green) which would resonate the Jamaican identity and bring out the tropical spirit of lush green.

Jamaica
The font of JAMAICA gives a strong emphasis with a little flirty accent. Black makes it bold and standout on the logo and projects as a character of beauty and sophistication. The size of the font makes it stand out.

Miss Earth
Miss Earth would definitely be in a cool and fresh yellow green. The uses of all capital letters hold a strong emphasis, but will not overshadow JAMAICA.

Beauties For a Cause
The logo needs another warm color aside from the yellow-orange of the carousel logo, the use of a pale red or pinkish hue brings back the feminine character of the entire logo.

Miss Earth Jamaica to Select Representative To Miss Earth 2009

KINGSTON, Jamaica – July 27, 2009 – Miss Earth Jamaica organizers announced today that by August 28, 2009 they will announce the result of the selection of a representative for Jamaica at the ninth edition of Miss Earth competition which takes place in Manilia, Philippines from October 18 thru November 8, 2009.

The Miss Earth winner serves as the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other environmental organizations. About ninety (90) contestants from different countries and territories are expected to compete in the event. At the conclusion of the competition, outgoing titleholder Miss Earth 2008, Karla Henry of the Philippines will crown her successor.

A team of top industry professionals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida have been put in place to assist the new Miss Earth Jamaica in her preparation for the international competition. National Wood and Water Day - NEPA

Saturday October 4, 2008 has been designated National Wood and Water Day. In commemoration of this day Miss Earth Jamaica Organization and its 2008 queen Simone Burke will mark the day by participating in tree planting and several environmental activities. She will be guest speaker at the National Environment and Planning Agency/Global Environment Facility – Integrating Watershed and Coastal Areas Management Project (GEF-IWCAM/NEPA) Opening Ceremony at the Fair Prospect High School, Fair Prospect, Portland on Friday October 3, 2008 commencing at 11:00am., She will speak on the impact of Climate Change and how by planting native trees and shrubs, we can help combat climate change. The event will climax with Miss Burke planting the first cassava stick at the tree planting exercise.

Miss Earth Jamaica 2008, Simone Burke spearhead the launch of Miss Earth Jamaica’s commitment to plant 500 trees as pledge to the United Nations Environmental Programme’s under the “Plant for the Planet” Billion Tree Campaign with the slogan “Go Green Jamaica”. This is an effort from the United Nations to plant 7 billion trees worldwide by the end of 2009.
